Students Deserve Opportunities

Phoenix’s Story

Phoenix, Class of 2020 Salutatorian, has always known he wanted to be an inventor someday.  After enrolling in pre-engineering through district partners Mountain Institute CTED and Yavapai College, Phoenix found his love, electrical engineering. However, for a student who was homeless for the third time beginning early in his junior year, college seemed like a long way away.

Although being a lifelong avid runner and high school cross country All-American, Phoenix didn’t know where to begin when seeking college athletic opportunities, until Chino Valley Education Foundation stepped in.

As part of the student support program, Phoenix received much needed nutrition assistance and was provided with equipment needed to compete.  His registration fees with NAIA and NCAA were paid, as were the fees required to complete his SAT. He even gained a mentor to assist with college applications and scholarships.

Phoenix shares, “Because of the help I received through CVEF, today I am studying electrical engineering and am competing in NCAA Division III cross country and track and field. Now I can focus on my future.”
